I purchased this machine cause at the time I could not afford a Kitchen Aid. This machine is ideal for mixing frosting made with vegetable shortening as this can become stiff and put strain on your regular mixer motor (I can testify I lost two hand mixers). The other attachments has proven to be useful as well, I used the dough hook to make fondant and was satisfied with the results. I appreciate the fact the mixer is quiet and I mean quiet it does not disturb anyone while I work, clean up is easy as well. This is a nice mixer for the price. I am not comparing it to my KitchenAid stand mixer of course. But to a comparably priced hand mixer (which this one can be used as also) this has many advantages - most importantly that you don't have to hold it. The bowl is a bit small, and it is a bit underpowered with just 200 watts, but for non-serious cooks, college kids and such, it's handy, well made and a good brand. Hamilton Beach 64695 Power Deluxe Hand/Stand Mixer Top Quality

It was all I could afford and I really needed a mixer with a little more muscle. If you can get something better, do! The beaters don't reach the bottom of the bowl and there's no way to adjust this like there is on the better made stand mixers. I was trying to make cookie icing in it and had to resort to using it as a hand mixer because it wasn't reaching any of the mixture in the bowl. Perhaps if they'd used a stainless steel bowl they'd have designed the beaters to go all the way down?

Two positive things about this product:

The bowl is really nice. Heavy, glass, SOLID. I may get rid of the stand because it seems to serve no purpose but I'll keep the bowl forever--and the mixer until I wear it out, of course. That is if I don't box the whole thing up and take it back to the store.

The whisk that comes with the mixer is even shorter than the beaters and is extremely flimsy. Unless you are whipping quite a bit of cream you won't be able to use this as a stand mixer and even then you'll have to stir and scrape the bowl constantly.

I purchased this one for my daughter a few years ago and also purchased a different model for myself about 5 years ago. No worries about the reconditioned models. They are identical to brand new. Not even a scratch on either one. My daughter says she prefers this model which has the tilting head and I prefer my model whose head is stationary and the bowl rises and lowers to the beaters. Just a matter of personal preference.
